The situation
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra sought a more strategic foothold in the competitive orchestral landscape of the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. Green Room was invited to structure and moderate the internal conversation.
The process
Green Room put a system of checks and balances in place, ensuring that outcomes from one group session were reviewed and assessed by a separate group as the process moved forward. Over the course of four months, the sessions engaged a wide range of stakeholders – musicians, board members, staff, artistic partners, programmers, politicians, and audience members. Regular communication and feedback from all orchestral musicians were integrated throughout the timeline.
Interim reporting helped keep the process on track, delivering timely insights to support key decision-making moments. Discussions covered a range of topics, including orchestral line-up, repertoire, programming and presentation, market positioning, partnerships, social role, and brand identity.
The results
The renewed public profile is built on sharply defined strategic and communication pillars. A comprehensive report captured all key insights, serving both as a practical reference and a springboard for future initiatives. The orchestra has invited Marc to continue as a consultant and moderator for periodic sessions.
